| Welcome to the White Hart Hotel |
|
The White Hart Hotel is in the centre of the historic market town of Spilsby, which lies in the heart of the rolling splendour of the Lincolnshire Wolds. The hotel was once an important coaching inn, and in one of its walls is possibly the oldest post box in England. For lovers of history and heritage, Spilsby is an ideal base. The famous explorer, Sir John Franklin, was born here, and a fine statue of him stands in the market square. One of his sisters became the mother of Emily Tennyson, wife of Queen Victoria’s poet Laureate, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, who was born in Somersby, just a few miles from Spilsby. A short drive eastwards from Spilsby is the village of Willoughby, birthplace of Captain John Smith, one of the first American heroes. About the same distance to the west is the historic city of Lincoln, a former Roman settlement, with its magnificent gothic cathedral. The Lincolnshire coast at Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea offers everything a visitor to the seaside could want – fairground rides, bucket and spade on the beach, links golf courses, walks on seemingly endless stretches of sand and sea, and much more. But if you like the idea of parking your car up for the duration of your stay, there’s an abundance of scenic Wolds walks right on the doorstep. Whatever you choose to do, we’ll guarantee you a generous helping of good old Lincolnshire hospitality at the White Hart Hotel. |
