Wow Factor outweighs the negatives,
Before I bought this camera I checked the various on-line reviews and found most of them to be fairly ‘negative’ (camera features basic, too expensive, projector a ‘gimmick’, etc., etc.,)).
Nevertheless I decided to buy one (Amazon has a GREAT price too) and… don’t regret it!
Yes, the camera is a fairly basic affair’ by today’s standards but it still boast 12MP resolution, a fairly decent 5x optical zoom and most of the ‘normal features’ people expect nowadays such as image stabilisation, face detection, video capture and alike.
But (and this is the point) what sets this specific camera apart is, of course, the (some would say obvious) inclusion of an (albeit limited) projector!
For me, this is the REASON it’s as expensive as it is (sure you can get a stand-alone ‘pocket projector’ for about 2/3rd’s of the price but the ‘convenience’ of having one INSIDE the camera itself is WAY better!) and ample justification for me.
The reviews I read also seem to have missed out on one of the major features… Until these things become common-place (I can see a BIG market for them myself) the moment you switch on the projector and point it at any convenient wall or ceiling, is the moment you realise why you bought it in the first place…the WOW factor.
And there’s just nothing else that can beat it for sharing those precious memories (how many times do you have to pass the old digital camera around (and around) at the office party, wedding, etc., for example.
Anyway –
Pros? decent photos (Auto mode does everything I need (though you can adjust the settings and/or use on of the numerous built-in modes/presets), not as BIG as I thought (and reviews would seem to suggest) it would be, supplied remote control and mini-stand, can handle large capacity SDHC cards (I’ve just bought a 32Gb one) and, of course…the PROJECTOR!
Cons? OK, it IS a little pricey, the projector isn’t really designed to work in bright/daylight (the darker the better/bigger the image you can display) and battery life is REAL bad if you use the projector a lot (probably less than an hour (though I have bought a couple of ‘spare batteries’ and another charger myself) and watch out for those SDHC cards as you’ll need a compatible reader unless you connect it to the PC directly (I have 2 card readers and neither would work with 8Gb or above)).
All in all I think the idea/concept works well and it does everything I need (today, for example, I took a picture of a mother with her new born baby (I work on a delivery suite) who couldn’t get out of bed but wanted to see the pictures I’d taken (dimmed the lights and projected a little slide-show on to the wall! The smile on her face was worth every penny I paid (I think even the baby was impressed!).

Excellent Camera,
Excellent camera. Bought as a present and has been greatly admired by all so far. Easy to use and the projection ability, although a bit of a novelty, has been well used showing everyone the photos taken

A novel camera,
I purchased this Nikon recently and love it, especially the built in projector facility which gives great results on a plain white wall.If you are looking for a talking point at your next party this is the item for you.
